Integration engineer
Make Salesforce and everything around it agree on one version of a customer, and keep them agreeing when the business changes.
About the role
Almost nothing we deliver ends at the Salesforce boundary. There's an ERP, a billing platform, a warehouse system, three spreadsheets and a data warehouse, and the interesting problems live in the space between them.
You design and build those connections: what moves, in which direction, how often, and what happens when it fails at 2am. This role sees more of a client's actual business than almost any other, because you have to understand the process before you can automate the handoff.
What you would be doing
- Design integration patterns and write them down before anyone builds
- Build and test the interfaces, with error handling that a support consultant can act on
- Map and reconcile data across systems that disagree about what a customer is
- Set up monitoring, so a failure is noticed by us rather than reported by the client
- Work with a client's other vendors, who won't always be pleased to see you
- Document the contract, so the next change doesn't start from scratch
What we are after
- Three or more years on integration work, on any platform
- REST, SOAP, events and batch, and an opinion about when each is right
- Salesforce APIs and their limits
- Data modelling ability: you can see why two systems disagree
- Calm under a production failure
Nice, not necessary
- MuleSoft, Boomi, Workato or Azure Integration Services
- ERP experience, especially NetSuite or Business Central
- Any exposure to reconciliation or audit requirements
The part people find hardest
Other people's systems. You'll spend real time waiting on a third-party vendor, reading documentation that's wrong, and proving a problem isn't ours. It's the least glamorous part of a genuinely satisfying job, and the people who thrive here quite enjoy the detective work.
How we hire
A conversation, not a screen
A phone or video call with our HR team. We'll talk through the role, the client mix and the parts of the job people find hardest.
Meet the team
A couple of people you would work alongside. It's your chance to see if it feels right, and ask the questions you didn't ask on the first call.
Offer, and references
We move within a week of the last conversation. References at the end, only with your say-so, and never to your current employer without asking.
